Architectural Design – 5 Story Period Home
One of our major projects is a 5 story period home remodelling with an extension at basement level which houses a gym and media room.
The ground floor is an open plan design with a kitchen and family area which has access to the patio garden. The kitchen door leads to 2 storage rooms.
The first floor contains the entrance hall which has stairs leading up from the street. A door separates the drawing room which has its own balcony overlooking the garden.
The second floor houses a master dressing room, master lobby and sitting room.
The third floor has 3 bedrooms with bathrooms.
Finally the converted attic has another ensuite bedroom.

About Project
A striking basement addition demonstrates a blend of contemporary minimalism with heritage architecture, where sleek modernism respectfully complements the period brick home above. The design employs a sophisticated palette of glass, white-rendered walls, and stone terracing to create a subterranean wellness retreat that feels anything but buried. Floor to ceiling glass panels framed in subtle metalwork dissolve the boundary between interior and exterior, while the transparent turquoise glass feature walls serve as both sculptural elements and natural light conduits, channeling daylight deep into the lower level. The architect has cleverly used the sloping site to their advantage, carving into the landscape to create a multi-level outdoor terrace with integrated landscaping and water features that cascade alongside illuminated stone walls.
Inside, the gym and pool areas benefit from this generous glazing strategy, with the curved pool enclosure wrapped in frameless glass that maintains visual connectivity with the terraced garden while preserving the historic character of the Victorian façade above. The juxtaposition of warm timber flooring against cool glass and water creates a spa-like atmosphere, proving that basement extensions can transcend their utilitarian origins to become luminous, luxurious spaces that enhance rather than compromise a period property’s architectural integrity.
